| Jenner.....Perched
on a cliff where the ocean meets the Russian River is the
tiny town of Jenner. This picturesque little town offers
excellent restaurants, a grocery store a gas station
and a gift shop. That's it.
Comming from Santa Rosa you would take River
Road West. Along the way you will pass by Korbel Winery
,where you could stop and do some wine tasting. You'll pass
Forestville, Guerneville, Monte Rio where the Bohemian Grove
is, past Cazadero, and wind up at Hwy 1 at the coast and
eventually in Jenner.
One of the major highlights of Jenner is
the beach at Jenner and Goat Rock Beach, a popular breeding
ground for harbor seals. This is a great adventure for young
and old alike. It's not often that you can get this close
to so many harbor seals. The best time to observe
them is March through June.
You can also observe Penny Island Bird Sanctuary
from mouth of Jenner beach. This is a great place to walk
on the beach and have a picnic, walk or watch the sunset.
During the winter months the mighty Russian
River will flow heavily into the ocean at this point. It
get's pretty rough during that time, swimming isn't recommended,
but you can climb on goat rock, which is just south of the
river mouth, Goat rock can be seen in the gallery image
15, and is a favorite place to climb as well as fish and
even surf on the South side of the rock. But be very carefull,
and realize your taking your life into your own hands.
This is a very wild and unpredicitable
area, I've actually seen wave breaking over goat rock and
that is at least 50 feet I have seen it with my own eyes
during the winter months. So be very carefull.
This spot is also been used for movies and
commercials. When I was an xray tech at a local hospital
I xrayed a very famous movie star (who I won't mention,
after he had an accident after filming a car commercial
out here on the winding roads right here above Jenner Beach
and River Mouth. Be careful driving up here the roads are
fun because they are windy but they are also very dangerous
too, especially at night and in the rain and bad weather.

During the winter months the
Russian River floods into the Pacific Ocean here at Jenner.
As you can see on these 3 images above the sand has created
a sand bar from the turbulance, which attracts Surfers to
the area. Be warned, it's dangerous! There's fish comming
from the river and seals comming for the fish and Sharks
comming for the seals or you if you happen to be there.
